Chronic synovitis with early cartilage destruction in sickle cell disease.

چکیده
Two patients with sickle cell disease presented with joint pain and early x-ray evidence of articular cartilage loss. Both later developed increasingly destructive arthritis with chronic synovitis identified in synovial biopsies. One patient developed demonstrable aseptic necrosis. Destructive arthropathy is much less common than the frequent transient effusions in sickle cell disease.

متن کاملExperimental Study on Protective Role of NSAID on Articular Cartilage Destruction in Septic Arthritis
Background: Surgical drainage and antibiotic therapy are the cornerstones of treatment protocols in septic arthritis; however, in some circumstances, the diagnosis and initiation of treatment may be retarded by slow disease progression or the time when the patient’s condition precludes early surgery. Therefore, it is beneficial to find ways to reduce the amount of articular injury. This study a...
متن کاملThe role of total and cartilage-specific estrogen receptor alpha expression for the ameliorating effect of estrogen treatment on arthritis
INTRODUCTION Estrogen (E2) delays onset and decreases severity of experimental arthritis. The aim of this study was to investigate the importance of total estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) expression and cartilage-specific ERα expression in genetically modified mice for the ameliorating effect of estrogen treatment in experimental arthritis. METHODS Mice with total (total ERα-/-) or cartilage-spe...

PURPOSE OF REVIEW Osteoarthritis is a chronic disease characterized by progressive destruction of articular cartilage and subchondral bone, and synovial reaction. Clinical and radiologic findings that form the basis of the diagnosis of osteoarthritis are poorly sensitive for monitoring the progression of the disease. Biologic markers reflecting quantitative and dynamic changes of joint tissue t...
